Centralisation first in Catalonia, then the Basques

The Basque right wing elite personified by the PNV of Lehendakari (first Minister) Urkullu sees the defence of the Economic agreement (Fueros) enjoyed by the Basque as the sole mission of his administration. And raison d’etre. The PNV once led by Ibarretxe had another mission – the deepest of devolution. Today he still calls for the Right to Decide.

The demo led by Gure Eske Dago (in our hands) showed solidarity with the Catalans who lost their autonomy for months via the application of Article 155. The Resurgent Right hope to win the elections on 28 April and then re apply centralisation. And once the margins (now centre stage) lurks the threat of Far Right VOX led by a Basque, Santiago Abascal. They will use the impending financial crisis to demand a roll back of autonomous powers in the Basque Country.

Then what will PNV do?

The political standoff in Catalonia and Basque Country-Navarre is the same.
